Shared Situation Awareness

Shared situation awareness is a teams ability to recognise a pattern in a fluid situation and to use this information to anticipate what might happen. Now trends will only define a season as opposed to a decade. Trends are inspired by films, music, exhibitions, sub cultures and  emerging areas.

3 Steps To Spot A Trend
  • Observe the raw data
  • Spot patterns to form hypothesis as to how a situation might unfold
  • Test the hypothesis - More than one option when pitching

Fords and Trafalgars - A Dior Term
A ford something that is easily accessible, fits in the moment and can be sold quickly
Trafalgar is slow fashion Refers to collections on the runway
Designers ideas develops slowly over time, season after season they will return to this idea
To understand a designer you need to spot the trafalgar in their collections
Galliano always touches back on the 18th century this is his trafalgar
Vivienne Westwood also does as well as britishness

Bubble Up Or Trickle Down
Bubble up where trends emerge form the streets and work their way up
Saint Laurent Dior - Crocodile vintage pieces
Trickle down - Concept pieces  - High street and Economy pieces have been inspired by concept pieces - Fashion that is hard to understand simplified
Regions are often looked at for inspiration

Where would you look and why?
One has more currency than the other
Who is leading - In Japan its Celine and Saint Laurent
Is this more direction, more of the moment

How To
Take raw data
Analyse it does this suggest a trend
Does it lock into other elements
Create a hypothesis abased on your research
